Paul L.Kershaw

PAUL L.KERSHAW was born in 1949 in York. He trained for the teaching profession in Newcastle upon Tyne and spent twelve years as an art teacher before leaving to concentrate on printmaking. He began wood engraving, self taught, in 1985 and has become a remarkable master of this exquisite art.

Most of Paul Kershaw’s work is a personal response to the landscape of north west Scotland, especially the Isle of Skye, where he settled in 1986, although he recently moved back to Yorkshire.

He publishes his prints, both black and white and colour, in limited editions printed on a hand press. In 1990 he was elected a member of the Society of Wood Engravers (SWE) and he exhibits regularly in their Annual Exhibitions. In 1994 he was elected an Associate of the Royal Society of Painter-Printmakers.

Paul has published and printed two books in collaboration with the poet, Phil Madden: - 'Wings Take Us', on the theme of birds, and “Paths’.
