Danny Ross

Danny Ross

DANNY ROSS studied at Gray’s School of Art, Aberdeen, graduating in 1974. He gained a Post Diploma in Drawing and Painting (High Commend) which was followed by a travelling scholarship from the Royal Academy Schools, London.

In 1987, with his wife Joan, he opened Tolquhon Gallery and he now paints, runs the gallery and teaches at Tolquhon Studio Workshop.

Danny's main interest is landscape although he also paints portraits, flower studies and interiors.  He is particularly inspired by the sweeping landscapes of the north and north east of Scotland, especially Orkney and Aberdeenshire.  He uses colour in his work to create a heightened sense of place and atmosphere.  He also expresses the intricacies of landscape found among rocks and cliff faces, snow and ice, trees and summer flowers, quiet rivers and gleaming seas.  Linear qualities, tone and texture all form a harmonious ode to the changing seasonal rhythms of the landscapes of the North.

He has exhibited widely and his work is held in many collections, both private and public, including Christies Fine Art, Ireland Alloys Holdings, Grampian Television, Lothian Health Board, Robert Gordon University, Royal Bath and West of England Society, Royal Highland Society, Scottish Arts Council and the University of Edinburgh.
