Victoria Braithwaite

Victoria Braithwaite

VICTORIA BRAITHWAITE is immersed in botanical art. She loves gardening, observing nature and being out in the green as much as possible but although drawing and painting for much of her life, it is relatively recently that she has focussed on botanical art.

“I was vaguely aware of botanical art – in the sense of admiring historical prints and illustrations – but never thought of it as contemporary, until I attended a local botanical art course and was introduced to the full scope of modern botanical art.

After this course, I continued sketching small subjects, taking longer over each piece, slowly refining technique and observation. It was over a year later before I found myself back in a regular class, where I started to work on larger scales (bigger than a sketchbook page, smaller than a wall!).

I tend to pick my subjects based on what looks like a challenge, or what catches my eye at any given point in time. I love the imperfect and the fading, and am always looking for a little drama.”

Victoria has work in private collections worldwide, including the Shirley Sherwood collection.
