ANN COWAN is an Edinburgh-based artist who practised as a solicitor for many years. Now painting full time, she studied at Edinburgh College of Art, focusing on painting urban landscape, and has since shown at the Royal Scottish Academy, Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour and Visual Arts Scotland annual open exhibitions.
Ann spends time walking and drawing on location and takes inspiration from the architecture and cityscapes of Edinburgh as well as the East Lothian coastline. Many of Ann’s works develop directly from her sketchbooks in which initial ink drawings are overlaid with collage and acrylic to create an emotional response to her surroundings.
Ann was elected a member of The Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour in 2023.
