JANE BLAIR was born and brought up in Argyll. She studied Costume Design at Edinburgh College of Art and worked for several years in theatre and television. "With an expanding family and need for more space, a move from town to country was the catalyst for a change of creative direction. An occasional painter before, I became captivated by the countryside around me. I am fascinated by those fleeting moments when changes of light on landscape or beast transform the everyday to the remarkable. When working with animals I try to retain the dignity of the subject, fiercely avoiding sentiment. In the studio, working mainly in oils, I let the work evolve intuitively without the use of preparatory drawings, referring to the many hundreds of photographs I take on site. Giving me a sense of time and place. Capturing the essence of presence."
