Art Classes, organised by Tolquhon Gallery, are held at the Tolquhon
Studio in Udny Green, a picturesque conservation village,
12 miles north of Aberdeen. The former Fleeman’s Shop
on the village green has been transformed into an attractive, well
equipped studio.
A recent addition to Tolquhon classes is Pattern Creation with Laura Cameron. The class is suitable for beginners as well as more advanced students. Participants will learn skills in pattern cutting, pattern design and garment construction. The class allows students to learn the essential skills of pattern cutting such as how to measure, apply and follow instructions to create individual patterns for individual sizes. Each student will be given the opportunity to design a garment of their choice and they will learn how to adapt their basic patterns to create unique designs. Students of all abilities are welcome. A friendly class that will teach the individual relevant skills in pattern cutting/construction and sewing. (Own sewing machine preferable as there is a limited amount available). The classes are held on Thursday afternoons from 1.45 pm to 4.15 pm and the new course will run for 10 weeks from 11 September to 29 November. Laura Cameron studied Textile and Surface Design at Gray’s School of Art from 2002-2006. She graduated with a 2.1 Honours Degree, specialising in Printed Textile Design and since completing the course she has become a lecturer of Art & Design at Banff and Buchan College, Aberdeen College and Gray’s School of Art. She teaches a range of various Art & Design courses as well as Fashion & Textile subjects at college, all of which give her great experience and teaching knowledge. Her specialism of Printed Textiles has been put into practice as she teaches screen printing for interior/fashion products at Gray’s School of Art. She also designs and makes her own range of hand printed handbags, scarves and accessories.
