IAN ELLIOT was born and brought up in Glasgow. While still a schoolboy he showed early promise, winning gold and bronze medals for art on four successive occasions before studying at Glasgow School of Art from 1964-68. He then trained at Jordanhill College of Education and worked as a teacher of art for many years, latterly as Head of Art & Design in King's Park Secondary School - a large comprehensive school in Glasgow. He left teaching in 1997 to devote himself to the pursuit and development of his art and now paints full time. Ian travels extensively throughout Scotland and makes regular visits to Tuscany and to the island of Mallorca where he has a pied a terre. These provide endless material, creating fusions of shimmering colour with distinctive buildings and abstract expressionistic vistas. "In my work I try to depict the wonderfully strong, vivid Mediterranean landscapes and seascapes, captivating the strength of the burning sun on the colours and shadows and shapes around me."
