WILLIAM NEAL studied at Guildford School of Art, graduating in 1967. He first came to prominence in the visual arts with two million-selling album covers for the 1970s progressive rock band, Emerson, Lake and Palmer: "Tarkus" and "Pictures at an Exhibition". Today, William mainly paints watercolours from his studio in Galloway, often depicting dawn, dusk and evening landscapes. The themes of peace, colour and harmony permeate all of his paintings. A review of his recent work described it as "...art to enjoy and find peace in; it paces the alpha waves of the brain into a harmonious beat; you will not be challenged but soothed..". These characteristics led the Glasgow Institute of Fine Arts to exhibit two of his paintings in November 2003. His links with the music industry continue: such diverse recording artists as Sir Cliff Richard, Leo Sayer, Marietta Parfitt, Rick Wakeman, Bill Wyman, Graham Parker, Chris Rea and Eric Clapton all have works by him. To date he has sold countless unlimited prints, over 5,000 limited editions and he has work in private and public collections at home and abroad. It has been said that he qualifies as "one of the best known unknowns". It is a title he is more than happy to live with.
