Spring Exhibition

2006 opens with our annual Spring Exhibition featuring new work by over thirty gallery artists embracing a range of artistic styles, mediums and sensibilities. Emerging artists as well as established artists are taking part, including Anne Anderson, Bob Batchelor, David Cohen, Frank Colclough, Ian Elliot, Moira Ferrier RSW, Gillian Goodheir, Margaret Gray, James Harrigan, Wendy Houston, Aliisa Hyslop, Elena Kourenkova, Duncan Macleod RSW, Jean Martin, Drummond Mayo, Andrew McMorrine, Julia Metcalfe, Rob Mullholland, Donald Murray, Hazel Nagl RSW, William Neal, Martin Oates, James Orr, Deborah Phillips, Danny Ross, Tom Shanks RSW RGI PAI, Joe Smernicki, John Wetten Brown, Bill Wright RSW RGI and Georgie Young.

This is "an exhibition which is packed with vibrant warmth and colour.  Apart from being drawn to old Tolquhon Gallery favourite Drummond Mayo, the collage-like works of Jean Martin pulled me back time and again.  There is much to explore in these charming pictures but then texture, surface tension and attention to detail are almost themes of this entire show.  Cynthia Wall explores similar territory in her delicious flower paintings, which are full of frenetic energy, light and growth.  Gillian Goodheir, whose painting, Snowdrops in the Sun, features on the exhibition card, shows a serene, controlled vision of nature that is almost mythic.  Again, this is a theme that runs through many of the paintings in this show, epitomised by the works of gallery owner Danny Ross himself.
