MARY DAVIDSON was born in Dundee and studied at Glasgow School of Art on the Continuing Education Programme. Since turning to full-time painting in 1994 she has been exhibiting in art galleries throughout the country including the Royal Glasgow Institute and the Royal Scottish Academy in Edinburgh and her work is to be shown in New York later this year. She describes herself as a restless painter of varied interests. She likes to experiment with different techniques and media. Her favourite themes are interiors, still life, flowers, the Scottish landscape and shorelines, in particular the islands of Mull and Iona. She is excited by the effect of light and shade and continually strives to capture this in her work, whether it be strong light on a Scottish loch, the hot Mediterranean sun, or simply the effect of a spot lamp angled towards a still life study in the studio.
