KATE
PHILP is a young artist based in
Berwickshire. She graduated from Edinburgh University with a degree in
biological science, but her interest in painting began to take over. She
incorporated painting into studies of nature and the human form and this
gradually evolved into a career as a full time artist around 1995. Her
style and subject matter are varied and she uses both watercolour and
acrylic, allowing for a wide range of expression. There is subtlety as
well as strength of colour and mood in her work. She draws inspiration
from the events of every day life and the people around her, as well as
the rugged beauty of the Scottish landscape and coastline. Kate exhibits
in and around Edinburgh and the Borders as well as in London, having
taken part in many exhibitions over the past ten years. She first
exhibited in a mixed exhibition at Tolquhon in 2005 when her paintings
were all sold very quickly. This her first solo exhibition at the
gallery.
