KATE PHILP returns for a much anticipated second solo show at Tolquhon. Kate graduated from Edinburgh University with a degree in biological science, but her interest in painting began to take over. She incorporated painting into studies of nature and the human form and this gradually evolved into a career as a full time artist. She is based in Berwickshire and draws inspiration from the events of every day life and the people and animals around her. She also explores the wider country, enjoying the rugged beauty of the Scottish landscape and coastline, particularly the north and north-east coasts.

Kate works in both watercolours and acrylics; this exhibition is entirely of acrylics which provide her with a stronger palette than watercolours as well as the opportunity to make good use of texture. Excellent use of colour and a lively and spontaneous style have made her paintings deservedly popular; they have an appealing freshness and exuberance. Kate exhibits widely and her work is become increasingly collected.
