JENNIFER WILSON has been exhibiting widely since 1982 and is a Professional Member of Applied Arts Scotland and a member of the International Feltmakers Association. She was first drawn to textiles as a medium for her art through their particularly sensuous qualities. The depth and range of colour, the textures and the possibility of constructing a work as in sculpture offer a freedom that is not possible in paint. Felt is the basic medium of all her work; it is an extremely versatile material, since designs can be worked directly into it as it is made; it can be cut up and combined, by refelting, into other work; stitched upon by hand or machine and even built up into three dimensions. Her recent work is in stitched collage, using paper, hand made silk paper and very light, hand made and dyed wool and silk felt.“The sea and landscape are strong elements, real and imagined, coming from memory and mood suggested by association and from reading poetry. I have lived close to the sea for nearly thirty years. Landscape is significant to me through its historical links and flowers are ever present, always a part of my life.”
