| ALAN
S.WATSON was born in Glasgow in
1947. He was brought up in Fife and studied in the School of
Sculpture at Edinburgh College of Art, graduating from there in 1972.
He has been living and working in Orkney since 1976, teaching Art and
running his own studio. The figure dominated his work during
college but over the past thirty years it is the land, the sky and the
seascapes of the islands that have become his main subject matter.
He has also moved away from Sculpture; drawing and painting have taken
over from modelling and carving. More specifically, his work is
centred around the fleeting light and atmosphere, the uncertain climate
and the more dramatic extremes of the landscape of Orkney. He
works in charcoal, conte, acrylics and oils and the exhibition includes
both drawings and paintings. Alan exhibits widely and has work in
private collections throughout Britain, Europe, Scandinavia, the USA,
Australia and New Zealand.
