NORMA HANSELL was an artist full of joie de vivre whose work reflected her personality. Sadly, after a short illness, she died an untimely death in November 2005. Norma studied at Glasgow School of Art, graduating in 1970. She initially worked as an illustrator, latterly illustrating on a freelance basis for various publishing companies including Collins, Blackies and Oxford University Press. During the 1980s she continued freelancing while raising a family but in 1991 she chose a change of direction, breaking loose from the constraints of illustration, choosing to paint for pleasure. This opportunity for more free expression allowed her to develop a more loose, fluid style. Norma was equally at home in Watercolours and Oils. She painted still life, flowers and landscape. She enjoyed the brilliance and unpredictability of Watercolour but also enjoyed the luscious richness of oils. A small number of paintings from her studio are available from Tolquhon Gallery.
