MARY ANN ROGERS lives in Northumberland and finds herself in an ideal environment for painting. She is not only driven by the landscape of Northumberland, but surrounds herself with a menagerie of unwitting models for her work. It is the moment which counts - the dark cloud over sunlit fields; a look of aggression; the burst of speed. As an artist she has always understood the importance of a lightning brush and has immersed herself in the physical act of applying only the paint required to express that moment. As a self-taught artist, the only rules Mary Ann sets herself, apart from integrity of line and absolute freedom, concern quality of materials. Only the best 100% acid free paper and the most lightfast pigments are used in paintings which may also have paint thrown at them, as well as water sprayed from the garden hosepipe. She has recently created a new studio providing space to pursue the alchemy of the elusive medium of watercolour…. Mary Ann exhibits widely throughout the UK and has work in many collections. She has also carried out numerous commissions including work for the Kellogg Company, British Gas, Thomson House Publishing PLC, The Field, IPC Media Ltd, North Light Books, Woodmill Shooting, Fife, Portmerion Potteries, South Tyneside Health Trust and Marie Curie Cancer Care.
