MARJORY HELME studied at Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen, from 1977 to 1979. She transferred to St Martin's College, London, in 1979 and graduated BA (Hons) in Fashion and Textiles in 1981. On leaving art school, she worked as a freelance designer in London until 1984; she then worked in retail management until 1992. She subsequently returned to Aberdeen and resumed painting. She now paints full time. She has a particular love of the Tuscan landscape and spends time in Italy whenever possible. She writes, "I love the patterns of the vineyards and olive groves on the hills and the way the cyprus trees punctuate and structure the landscape. The warm pink tones of the soil and the stone buildings and the blues and greens of the trees and shrubs provide endless inspiration".
