MALCOLM CHEAPE held his first one man show at Tolquhon in 1988 having completed his post graduate degree at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee in 1987. He has continued to paint full time since then. He first began painting industrial and engineering subjects when completing a foundation year at college in Middlesbrough.  Coming from rural Perthshire, he found the industrial landscape arresting. His interest in these subjects has continued, particularly the forms and structures of boats and ships whether these are fishing boats in Peterhead harbour or sailing ships chronicled in archives. A human story behind his work is often suggested through collage and symbols of myths and legends. Malcolm is a dramatic and striking painter who has won many awards and commissions and has work in a number of public collections.
