FRANK COLCLOUGH was born in Wick, Caithness, then lived in London before settling in Alloway in 1975. He worked originally as a design-draughtsman while studying art at Camberwell; he has worked as a professional artist since 1981.

Exhibiting locally with Ayr Sketch Club and the Octagon group, Frank’s work is now exhibited widely throughout Scotland and further afield. South Ayrshire Council has many of his watercolours in their collection and the major Scottish societies RSW, RGI and RSA have all exhibited his work. Frank’s early paintings were in watercolour, but over the past few years he has worked in acrylic and oils. The inspiration for his painting stems from his admiration for the Scottish colourist movement, and this is reflected in his work which now consists mainly of views of the West coast of Scotland and colourful still life studies.
