Dorothy Bruce

Dorothy Bruce now lives in Scotland but she was born in Wisconsin, USA.  She studied Fine Art at Minneapolis School of Art, now the Minneapolis College of Art and Design, gaining her Bachelor of Art in 1958.

She travelled extensively in the States and in Australia, participating in Group exhibitions, before holding a one-woman exhibition in Brisbane, Australia.

She has lived and worked in Scotland for over 25 years painting mainly in watercolours, the landscapes and coastal scenes that are so distinctive to this country. The continually changing light and the austerity of much of the Northern Highlands are recurring themes in much of her work.  She handles watercolour with wonderful skill and sensitivity and often introduces texture to her paintings.

Her work has been seen in one-woman shows in galleries throughout Scotland, including Tolquhon Gallery,  and in group exhibitions including those of the Royal Scottish Society of Painters in Watercolour.
