DES GORMAN was one of the first artists to hold a solo show at Tolquhon.  He was born in Glasgow and studied at Gray's School of Art, graduating in 1988, six months after the gallery opened.  His degree show was outstanding and he became a regular exhibitor at Tolquhon thereafter.   He returned to Glasgow after graduating and has painted full time ever since, exhibiting mainly in London and Glasgow.  The human figure has always fascinated him and he pursued painting from life at a time when it had become unfashionable.  He has also always painted still life and his recent work focuses very much on flowers, their form and colour.

Gorman's work employs a bold painterly style that is redolent of Peploe, but with an added density that lures the viewer in to a dark, velvety world.
