JOHN LOWRIE is from the East Neuk of Fife, where his family has lived for generations. He was born in 1969 in Anstruther and grew up in the town.  To date, the Scottish Landscape has been his main inspiration and he has travelled extensively throughout Scotland, both the mainland and its islands.  He is married to an Australian artist.  Despite his deep roots in Fife, he recently moved with his family to Australia but intends to return regularly to Scotland.  

John completed an HNC at Dundee College before graduating with a BA (Hons) from Edinburgh College of Art.  He later returned to Dundee to complete an MA in Fine Art.  

He is a regular exhibitor around Scotland, he has also shown work in England, Ireland and Australia, with solo shows in Edinburgh, London and Sydney.

He has undertaken a number of residencies and is a past chairman of the Pittenweem Arts Festival.  His work is held in many collections including those of the Arthur Boyd Foundation, Bundanon, Nowra, Australia, The Earl and Countess of Crawford and Balcarres, the Ballinglen Arts Foundation, Ireland, The Earl and Countess of Cawdor,   Robert Horne Paper Ltd and Tullis Russell Ltd.
