Ian Elliot was born and brought up in Glasgow.  He won gold and bronze medals for art on four successive occasions before attending Glasgow School of Art from 1964-68. Thereafter, he worked his way through the teaching profession to become, for some 15 years, the Head of Art & Design in a large comprehensive secondary school in Glasgow.

He has now left teaching to devote himself totally to the pursuit and development of his own artistic career.  He spends much time on, and gains much inspiration from, the island of Mallorca and from Italy, sharply contrasting environments from that of his native shores.

"In my work, through the media of oil and watercolour, I try to depict the wonderfully strong, vivid Mediterranean landscapes and seascapes, captivating the strength of the burning sun on the colours and shadows and shapes around me."

Besides Britain, he has works hanging in Spain, Canada and The United States, amongst others.
